Call for Papers for a Special Issue on Rail Engineering and Transportation in the Journal of Transportation Engineering.

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has elected 75 new members and nine foreign associates. Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including where appropriate significant contributions to the engineering "literature," and to the "pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditonal fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."

T&DI members and staff are proud to announce that Adrian R. Chamberlain, Ph.D., P.E., who is a Manager for Parsons Brinckerhoff, Denver has been selected for innovations in the mobility, aesthetic, safety, and environmental aspects of transportation systems. Congratulations Dr. Chamberlain!

Frank M. Masters Transportation Engineering Award — Tien F. Fwa, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE - For innovative research on highway and airport pavements and excellence in teaching and professional activities to enhance transportation engineering.

Wilbur S. Smith Award — Fred L. Mannering, Ph.D., A. M.ASCE - For outstanding contributions in the enhancement of the role of the civil engineer in highway engineering though excellence in teaching and research.

Arthur M. Wellington Prize — Said Easa, Ph.D., P. Eng., M.ASCE - For the paper, Three-Dimensional Model for Stop-Control Intersection Sight Distance, Journal of Transportation Engineering, March/April 2004.

Harland Bartholomew Award — Michael J. Demetsky, Ph.D., P. E., F.ASCE - For outstanding contributions to the enhancement of the role of the civil engineer in urban planning and development through excellence in teaching and research.

James Laurie Prize — Chandra R. Bhat, Ph.D., P.E., A. M.ASCE - For innovative contributions to the analysis and design of transportation systems.

Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize — Mathew G. Karlaftis, Ph.D., M.ASCE - For research on innovative methods for the operation of mass transportation systems during large events.
